2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer ACTIV Recalled Over Tire Pressure Label - GM Authority

soerasu.blogspot.com

Last month, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and General Motors recalled the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer over an issue with the crossover’s tire/wheel label.

The defect: certain 2021 model year Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicles with optional 17-inch sport terrain tires fail to conform to S4.3.3 of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 110, “Tire Selection and Rims for Motor Vehicles.” The certification label on these vehicles does not provide the tire size and cold tire pressure for front and rear tires, as required. Information for this tire option was not loaded into the label printing system for these vehicles.

The hazards: because the labels do not contain this information, there exists a risk that customers may overinflate or underinflate their tires, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: customers will be provided corrected overlay labels. They may apply the labels themselves or have a dealer apply them. All affected vehicles are under warranty, so reimbursement is not offered. Certification overlay labels provided to owners or dealers to correct this condition will have the required tire size and cold tire pressure for the front and rear tires.

Affected components: labels for tires and rims.

Affected vehicles: 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer, specifically the ACTIV model – which is the only model equipped with the 17-inch sport terrain tires.

Number of affected vehicles:

Owners should: wait for GM to contact them, at which point they will be instructed to receive the correct labels. Dealers were notified on May 21st, 2020. Owner notification is planned for July 6th, 2020

Chronology: on April 7th, 2020, during a check of the label printing system configuration at the GM Bupyeong plant in Korea, it was discovered that some information was not being printed on the vehicle certification labels for vehicles with optional 17-inch sport terrain tires. The issue was corrected in the label printing system that same day. On April 9th, 2020, the issue was submitted to GM’s Speak Up For Safety (SUFS) program. Vehicles still in transit were put on hold at the port of entry for correction. GM opened an investigation on April 28th, 2020. On May 14th, 2020 GM’s Safety and Field Action Decision Authority (SFADA) decided that the condition caused a noncompliance with FMVSS 110. The label printing system was corrected on April 7th, 2020 at the factory.
