Whities—the electronic label founded by Nic Tasker that has released music from producers like Lanark Artefax, Overmono, Avalon Emerson, and others—is changing its name. The label will now be known as AD 93, Tasker announced in a statement. “The label was originally founded as a Young Turks imprint, a white label series primarily releasing music from YT affiliated aritsts,” he explained. “The name Whities was chosen for its reference to to white labels and also as it’s the phonetic spelling of the YT abbreviation.”

Tasker said that after he took the label independent from Young Turks and it shifted directions, “the name lost its connection to that initial idea and since then it hasn’t felt quite right.” He continued, “I don’t want the name to potentially exclude or offend anyone, or be a topic of conversation at all, and at times I feel this may have been the case. The artists should be the focus. There is definitely an imbalance of diversity on the label, and that is something I’m addressing.” Find the full statement below.
