Dear John: I have these teacups. They were my grandmother’s. There is no rhyme or reason to them as there are no sets. Is there any value? — V.R., internet

Dear V.R.: Teacups are a popular collecting category and generally are very affordable. I am glad you sent good photographs including of the underside of a few of your teacups. I think most of them were made in England between World War I and II. Makers names like Paragon and Royal Albert are well known by collectors. The overall condition appears to be excellent. Potential dollar values of those in the photographs range from $10 to $30 apiece.

Dear John: Can you please tell me anything about a tray I picked up at an antiques sale a while back? I am enclosing a picture of it, though it is not very good. It is marked on the back side with “KYS-ITE over 112,1.” On the front of the tray it says Currier and Ives and “Frozen Up.” It is in fair condition. Before I put some polyurethane on it, so I can use it outside, I thought I should check with you. Thank you. — R.B., internet

Dear R.B.: The Currier and Ives Company produced hand-colored lithographs from 1857 to 1907. They were one of the largest print companies in the United States, their decorative and historical prints are a specific category of collector interest. “Frozen Up” is the title of the lithograph produced by them in 1872 and is considered one of the best 50 of their total production.

The tray you have with the picture “Frozen Up” on it is a “fantasy product” having nothing to do with the original Currier and Ives Company. The tray has no specific collector interest. So, proceed as you like with the polyurethane coating, it will keep it looking good for a long time.

Dear John: Enclosed are pictures of a secretary; sorry about the quality. On the inside there are lots of little cubbies and drawers. It has claw feet and the numbers 554 on the back. I would like to know the history and or time period and value of the piece. Thanks for your help. — G.G., internet

Dear G.G.: The secretary bookcase is American made. The style is English from the late 1700s. The time of production of your piece was 1900 to 1930. The serpentine drawer fronts add to its market interest. Potential dollar value is below $500.
