"We are definitely seeing an uptick in positivity," said Dr. Katherine Gergen Barnett of Boston Medical Center.Barnett said she is encouraged that about 20% of the state is now fully vaccinated, but that leaves about 80% less protected against fast-moving variants."I think that's a huge driver," she said. "I think that people have a lot of sense of, you know, loosening. We are seeing places opening, we're seeing people traveling."West of the canal, Brockton is another community feeling the pressure. It is also back in the Red after several weeks. "Because the vaccine roll-out is coming, I think some people are feeling, 'Hey, you don't need to wear the masks anymore,'" said Mayor Robert Sullivan.Vaccine supply each week continues to grow, but doctors say it could still be months before so-called herd immunity helps eliminate infection.
