A little bit of recent New Jersey history popped up on “Jeopardy!” Wednesday night.

The shoutout arrived in the form of Bridgegate — not that anyone got the answer right.

Guest host Anderson Cooper read the clue from the $400 square of the “In-car-cerated” category, which was sandwiched between “‘Land’ fill” and “Modern Hebrew”:

“Nickname for the 2013 scandal in which access lanes from N.J. to the GW were deliberately closed, causing monster gridlock.”

Was it the “GW” that threw them off? (Cooper read this as “GW,” not “GWB” or George Washington Bridge.)

Was it the lack of a Chris Christie mention?

Maybe the clue would’ve been more transparent if the direct quote “traffic problems in Fort Lee” replaced “monster gridlock.”

Whatever it was, there were no takers for this one. No one answered.

Bridget Anne Kelly, former deputy chief of staff to former Gov. Chris Christie, sent the famous “time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee” email before the access lanes to the George Washington Bridge were closed.

In 2016, Kelly and Bill Baroni, former deputy executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, were found guilty of fraud and conspiracy. They were convicted in connection with a scheme to snarl traffic in Fort Lee.

Prosecutors said the purpose of the scheme was retaliation against Mark Sokolich, the mayor of Fort Lee, after he did not endorse Christie for reelection in 2013.

In 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Kelly and Baroni’s convictions.
