Even though compact wagons have lost ground to crossovers and SUVs, Peugeot is keen on making a long roof version of the new generation 308, which it will sell alongside the five-door hatchback model.
Spied testing in Europe, alongside its shorter sibling, the 308 SW will mirror the design of the new hatchback up to the B-pillars, meaning a nose that’s situated lower than before and a more subtle grille that will incorporate the brand’s newly announced lion-logo. Further back, we can see that the rear windows have a more squared shape and that the roof-mounted spoiler is more discreet.
In addition, the license plate holder still rests on the tailgate, albeit further down compared to its predecessor, while on the hatchback it was moved to the bumper. The taillights have different graphics, assuming that they are the production units, and the reflectors appear to be wider and shorter.

We also get a far-away glimpse of the cabin that’s mostly covered up, yet even so, it appears that the infotainment system has been moved further up. It’s very likely that the interior design will be heavily based on the latest 3008 crossover.
Regular and hybrid powertrains
The new Peugeot 308 hatch is expected to make its world premiere in the coming months offering regular diesel and petrol as well as mild-hybrid and two plug-in hybrid petrol powertrains. The latter assemblies are rumored to combine a 1.6-liter engine with one and two electric motors respectively, and the more powerful variant could be part of the Peugeot Sport Engineered (PSE) sub-brand, alongside the 508 PSE, boasting around 300 HP. The wagon model that will share its powertrain lineup with the hatch will follow either towards the end of this year or in the beginning of 2022.
