Nothing is ever forgotten in the rivalry between Auburn and Alabama. Last week, Tigers quarterback Bo Nix labeled Crimson Tide quarterback Mac Jones as more of a game manager, and Alabama wasn't just going to let that slide.
“He does a great job managing the game, getting the ball to his players around him,” Nix said of Jones last week. “Obviously he’s got a great running back, great offensive line, great receivers. That helps a lot. But he does a good job of managing the job, taking completions and knowing what to do with the ball.”
Jones didn't look much like a game manager in Alabama's blowout win over Auburn, 42-13, on Saturday afternoon. Jones finished the game with 302 passing yards and five touchdowns. Meanwhile, Nix ended his day with 227 passing yards and a pair of interceptions. On Monday, the official Alabama Football Twitter account posted a graphic of Jones (with Nix in the background) that read, "Manager Material."

Following his team's win on Saturday, Crimson Tide wide receiver Devonta Smith admitted that he and his teammates saw Nix's remarks before the game. Smith said he is okay with letting other people do the talking and letting Alabama do the executing on the football field.
“It was just funny just seeing that,” Smith said after the rivalry game. “But I mean, at the end of the day, people are gonna talk, they’re gonna do what they want. At the end of the day, we’re just gonna show up, execute the game plan and do what we’ve gotta do.”
Through eight games in the 2020 season, Jones has now completed 76.2% of his passes for 2,728 yards, 23 touchdowns, and three interceptions.
