District’s recovery rate at 97.92% surpasses national average

Active caseload drops below 1,000 mark after several weeks

As far as COVID-19 is concerned, the situation is improving in Nagpur district. On Sunday, for the third day in a row, no death was reported in Nagpur city as well as rural areas. Apart from scoring this hat-trick, Sunday saw absolutely no death reported in district even in ‘of person from outside district’ category. This particular development has come after almost 11 months. Besides, as per the data released by the administration on Sunday, only 39 tested positive out of 8,857 tests conducted in city and rural areas both. The positivity rate for the district as a whole was only 0.44 per cent on Sunday.

That for the city was even lower -- 0.36 per cent only. Interestingly, with steady increase in recoveries every day, the active caseload came down to 907 on Sunday. After several weeks, the active caseload dropped to below 1,000 mark. As far as recoveries are concerned, Sunday saw 134 recoveries in district including 96 in city and 38 in rural areas. With these, the cumulative total of recoveries in the district rose to 4,66,837 including 3,26,749 in Nagpur city and 1,40,088 in rural areas. With steady improvement, the district’s recovery rate rose to 97.92 per cent, which was higher than the national average of 96.27 per cent as on Sunday. The deaths due to COVID-19 are recorded in three categories -- Nagpur city, Nagpur rural, and person(s) from outside district.

The category ‘person(s) from outside district’ indicates active caseload in nearby districts or adjoining States. The patients from these areas are brought to Nagpur in case of complications. On most occasions, the number of positive cases in this particular category matches the number of deaths in this category. Drop in number of cases or deaths in ‘person(s) from outside district’ category indicates improvement in COVID-19 situation in nearby districts/areas. As per the data available, the district had seen no COVID-19 death in any of these three categories, on July 21, 2020. However, since July 21, 2020, the district at least one death in any of these three categories. Later on, as the first wave receded, Nagpur city as well as rural areas recorded ‘zero’ death on some or the other occasions. As the first wave receded, Nagpur city recorded the first ‘no death day’ on January 26, 2021, since July 21 last year.

The very next day, Nagpur rural also recorded ‘zero’ deaths. It was on February 7, 2021, that Nagpur city and rural areas both reported no death, but there were two deaths in ‘of person(s) from outside district’ category. Then came the second wave of infections and everything went haywire. The situation deteriorated. But, by the end of May, situation started improving. The month of June has so far brought down positivity rate, death rate, as well as active caseload. At the same time, recovery rate has increased steadily. On June 18 and June 19, again, there was no death in Nagpur city as well as rural areas. However, one death got reported in ‘of person(s) from outside district’ category on both these dates. On Sunday came the truly positive development, when the district as a whole reported no death in any of the three categories -- Nagpur city, Nagpur rural, and ‘of person(s) from outside district’.
