IDK and Harvard University have announced a music business program for BIPOC students called “No Label Academy.”
According to reports, No Label Academy will be a 10-day program taking place from August 21 to 31 at Harvard University in Boston. “Partnering with universities, brands, and a unique set of speakers, No Label and IDK are constructing a comprehensive 10 day music business course at Harvard University. This free course focuses on building a pipeline for BIPOC talent to kickstart their music careers, democratizing and reframing what is attainable in the industry,” IDK shared via Instagram. No music or artist experienced is required and the tuition and all expenses will be covered.
“I decided to create this program for the purpose of letting people in the BIPOC community know that a job in the arts is a lot more realistic than what society makes it seem these days,” IDK said in a statement. Brian K. Price, a clinical professor of law at Harvard Law School and the director of the Transactional Law Clinics, will be an adviser to the program. “Anyone aspiring to do music as a business must think like and excel as an entrepreneur. There must be a foundation of knowledge and how to apply that knowledge. Learning from experience is one way; learning from ‘the experienced’ is another,” he shared. “I’m happy to support initiatives that help learners understand how to make wise decisions.”
