Shrewsbury – Town Manager Kevin Mizikar was cautiously optimistic when he reported to the Board, March 9, that since their last meeting, the rate of positive local COVID-19 cases had decreased from what Shrewsbury had been previously seeing.
That put Shrewsbury on the verge of returning to the state’s “green status” of virus transmission risk.
“We are moving very close,” Mizikar stated.
To make that happen, Shrewsbury’s average daily number of infections per 100,000 will have to drop below 10. As of March 9, that number sat just above 17, down from 30 just a matter of weeks ago.
Mizikar noted that town buildings remain closed and that employees at town hall are working in a hybrid fashion.
Relevant to vaccines, 7,379 residents have had at least one dose while 3,246 have had their second. The state is in phase two, group two of its rollout, which makes eligible those 65 and older and people with medical conditions and comorbidities. Beginning March 11, all K-12 educators, staff and childcare workers also became eligible.
Meanwhile, the town continues to work through a partnership with the Central Massachusetts Regional Public Health Alliance (CMRPHA) in delivering vaccine doses.
