Model 258 Label Printer Applicator

A leading manufacturer and integrator of labeling, coding, and marking equipment recently announced a new product that will support the rapidly growing packaging industry.

With the introduction of its Model 258 Label Printer Applicator with CrossMerge™ technology, Texas-based ID Technology allows customers to both maximize uptime and optimize label material usage by up to 50%.

By separating the label printing process from label application, the all-electric Model 258 enables operators to ensure consistent GS1-compliant barcode and alphanumeric text readability while keeping speeds fast.

“Our patent-pending CrossMerge™ technology allows us to decouple print speed from line speed and rotate the print head to change print orientation,” said Mark Bowden, vice president of sales and service at ID Technology. “This simultaneously increases line throughput while decreasing print speed to enhance print quality.”

The Model 258 prints and applies labels 3.5-6 inches wide and 1.75-4 inches long on packaging lines running at speeds up to 200 feet per minute or more. Because the print engine is in the portrait orientation to print along the short dimension of a label, it prints twice as many labels on a single roll, cutting changeover frequency in half and extending machinery lifespan.

ID Technology’s new model uses a two-prong simultaneous production approach. By employing a vacuum belt with multiple label capacity to transfer labels from the print engine to the point of application, the system can begin seamlessly printing the label for the next product.

The Model 258 also helps to address staffing and skills gap challenges, a growing issue facing businesses across the industrial sector. “Single-button functionality and the ability to easily swing the applicator from its running position to its service position and back make the 258 perfect for less trained operators in high turnover environments,” Bowden explained.
