Walmart Inc. WMT, -0.03% said Tuesday that it has named American fashion designer Brandon Maxwell as creative director for its private-label Free Assembly and Scoop brands. Maxwell will design collections for men's, women's, children's and accessories on a seasonal basis, and have a hand in marketing and campaigns for the two brands. "This partnership allows me to bring the experience and joy of fashion to countless people who live in small towns across the country," Maxwell said in a statement. "Everyone deserves to have access to well-designed clothing at an accessible price point." Maxwell, known for evening gowns and other high-end women's apparel, has his own eponymous line. He will play a role in holiday 2021 collections for Free Assembly and Scoop and his full lines will be available for spring 2022. The Free Assembly line is focused on essentials, and Scoop, which has its roots in a chain of designer boutiques, is more trend inspired. Maxwell has also designed a line of face masks that will now be available exclusively at Walmart. Shares of Walmart have gained 25% over the last year while the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.39% is up 63.2% for the period.
