Kaitlynn Carter isn’t ready to label her sexuality.

When asked in a recent interview how she identifies, Carter — who was previously in high-profile relationships with Brody Jenner and Miley Cyrus — said, “I just don’t have an answer.”

“I don’t feel like I specifically connect with anyone, like, I don’t know. I don’t feel like anything is quite the right fit for me, at least not yet,” she said on the podcast “Scissoring Isn’t a Thing” on Tuesday.

Carter continued, “I think this is also all a little new to me and, so I just try to be real … I want to learn myself a little better before I make a decision like that.”

“The Hills: New Beginning” star, 31, began dating Jenner, 36, in 2014. They tied the knot in 2018, but their union was never actually legalized. Right after they split up in August 2019, Carter dated Cyrus, 27. News of their relationship broke when photos surfaced of them kissing during a trip to Italy. However, their short-lived romance ended a month later.

Carter revealed that she was forced to come out to her family just before the photos of her and Cyrus were released.

“Obviously it would have been nice to have the luxury of privacy and time to have that conversation with my family,” she said, adding, “But having said that, I didn’t have any shame in telling my parents at the time. I was excited about where I was in the relationship and … I had just been through a very challenging period of time in my life and it finally felt like it was getting better.

“I was just feeling so happy that I honestly, at the time, didn’t appreciate the magnitude of what was going on. I was just so absorbed in it.”

Carter said her dad has always been “chill” about things, but her mom was more critical and still struggles to understand her sometimes.

“My mom, she thinks that it was a phase or is a phase. She’s like, ‘Well yeah, but you’ll eventually end up with a man,'” she said. “This is something we actually just talked about on ‘The Hills’ the other day because it really irritates me when she says that … I feel like part of the reason I was always was dating and was with men the whole beginning of my life was because that’s what I thought I was supposed to do. I never really thought outside the box.”

She continued, “And so when my mom says that to me I’m like, ‘You’re part of the problem.’ I was like, ‘I love you. I know you’re not trying to be rude,’ because my parents are amazing. They’ve always accepted anyone I’ve ever chosen to be with and they’re so supportive. They just want me to be happy. But, I can sense it with my mom that that’s how she thinks.”

Carter also said these days, she’s focusing on herself amid the coronavirus pandemic, which halted production on “The Hills: New Beginnings.”

“It was important for me to spend a lot of time in seclusion in a way and get to the bottom of who I feel like I am really as a person,” she said, adding that her relationship with Cyrus was a “whirlwind” and she didn’t “know where to go from there.”

“I think that I actually ended up coming out of it feeling a lot more confident and secure in who I am,” she said. “I realized that I can just be whatever I want and be friends with whoever I want and do anything that I want.”
