MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Major Hurricane Delta is currently a Category 3 with maximum sustained winds at 115 MPH. The system has slowed down some. This is something we don’t want to see because the longer it is over the Gulf, the stronger Delta can get.
The current track shows it making landfall as a Category 3 with max winds at 120 MPH. Landfall is still expected tomorrow evening around 7 PM. Delta is expected to hold hurricane strength through La Salle Parish and then downgrade to a tropical storm by the time it reaches SE Caldwell Parish.
The next 24 hours will be crucial in determining the strength at landfall. The stronger the system, the stronger the impacts that we will see in the ArkLaMiss. We’re still expecting wind gusts as high as 65 MPH but we may need to increase this by tomorrow. Rain totals will range from 3′-8″ from now through Saturday. Marginal Risk for severe weather covers Tensas and Concordia on Friday. This severe threat is for isolated tornadoes.
Outer rain bands of major Hurricane Delta continue to move through the ArkLaMiss. Expect rain activity to come in waves until late Friday. By Friday evening, widespread rain will begin and increase from south to north. Winds will also be increasing throughout the day tomorrow. Gusts as high as 65 mph can be expected overnight Friday into Saturday morning.
Thursday night, rain showers will continue with breezy conditions. Temperatures will fall into the upper 60s.
Friday, winds will pick up throughout the day ahead of Delta. Expect rain most of the day with flash flooding being a concern. Winds will be strong overnight. Temperatures only peaking in the low 70s.
Saturday, rain and winds will continue into the morning hours for much of the region. Temperatures will climb into the mid-70s. Most of the rain will move out by the afternoon.
